LEGITIMACY

How can you build legitimacy for yourself? In interactions with:
a) friends
b) peers in your classes
c) teachers
d) new adults that you meet

Can you connect the science by Amy Cuddy to these ideas?

Legitimacy with friends, peers, and teachers can be built through actively interacting in situations that also involve these groups. For example actively and positively participating in class discussion will help build legitimacy with you teachers as they develop a understanding of you compared to other students who do not actively participate. Taking leadership roles during group activities will help build legitimacy with peers in you class as it shows them that you are willing to accept responsibility, compared to individuals who refuse to help with the project. Interaction even on the smallest level will show your friends that you share common interests and therefore build legitimacy. In relation to the ideas presented by Amy Cuddy, body language is a strong builder of legitimacy especially when dealing with new adults that know little to nothing about you. It is important to exhibit body language that is welcoming but demonstrates confidence when building legitimacy, unlike showing body language such as crossed arms which projects that you are closed off to new individuals.
